Nov 01, Re: Dwarves won't chop trees «Reply #7 on: November 01,pm» The interface is a jungle at first, but after a while you stop even looking at it because the sequences of key shortcuts come so quickly. BUT now, despite having an axe sitting in a weapon bin, and lots of designated trees waiting to be cut, and several idle dwarves with wood-cutting enabled as a labour, nobody is cutting wood.
I've used up my last log, and my fortress needs barrels, bins, beds. Not to mention the huge gap that remains in my protective stockade. Dwarves won't chop down trees in my new fort. So yeah, as the title says. I designate trees to be cut, nobody who's assigned to the work picks up the axe we have and cuts them.
I can't make beds.
I forget which button but it's the one on the lower right of the screen that says toggle or switch.
Or get trees out of the way to build walls. Let me list some info to get a better idea of the problem. Woodcutters won't cut down trees. I started a new embark today and have played somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 year so far.
My problem is that I can't seem to get my woodcutters to cut down trees. I've been getting by with purchasing wood from caravans, but they seem to be few and far between so I never have enough wood. Wood, unlike most other resources, is usually found outside. If most of the dwarfs are not allowed to go outside, then they won't be able to collect the wood. The few dwarfs who are allowed to go outside (the woodcutters themselves) will eventually get around to it, but probably not until they run out of trees they've been told to murder.
Actually, NONE of the dwarves pick-up the axe except to move it to different stockpiles. I tried dumping it and reclaiming it, forbidding everyone but one dwarf from woodcutting, allowing everyone to woodcut
